The SMU Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) conducted a survey in November 2022, drawing on data from the Singapore Life Panel, to understand the support local elderly needs to learn digital technology. It found that about half of Singapore’s seniors own two or more digital devices. Compared to seniors who own only one or none at all, they are more inclined to affirm the high efficiency that digital devices bring to work and life. SMU Professor of Sociology (Practice) and Director of Centre for Research on Successful Ageing, Paulin Straughan, hopes this research will help the elderly become more digitally empowered and socially connected to others, ultimately safeguarding their overall wellbeing.
