In a commentary, SMU student Clement Wong who recently completed a three-month internship in Jakarta as part of the SMU Global Innovation Immersion (GII) programme, described how the experience was a fruitful one. He also shared how the GII team planned a series of classes that taught the students the key nuances of using the language at work, such as how to address their supervisors, write emails, and greet people in various settings, to help him overcome the culture shock he experienced. He also shared how GII alumni or partners helped them with their research and how he found support from fellow interns and the GII team when he was hospitalised for a severe case of food poisoning.
