SMU’s business faculty recognised by INFORMS for their outstanding research

A paper co-authored by Professor Bert De Reyck, Dean of SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB), titled Forecasting Airport Transfer Passenger Flow Using Real-Time Data and Machine Learning, has won the 2022 Aviation Applications Best Paper Award by the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS). INFORMS is the largest professional society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research, management science and business analytics.

The Award is given out annually to an outstanding paper in the field of aviation applications. The paper must have been published in a refereed journal and must present innovative approaches for solving complex problems in aviation and air transportation, with an emphasis on operations research and quantitative methods. The Award considers papers covering a diverse range of aviation-related topics – from aviation finance, marketing, economics and policy, to airport planning, airspace management and drone delivery.

Another paper co-authored by Dean Bert De Reyck and LKCSB Professor of Operations Management Pascale Crama has also been named one of two Runners-up for the 2022 INFORMS TIMES Best Paper Award, which recognises impactful papers in technology management, innovation, new product development and entrepreneurship. Finalists are selected from INFORMS publications five years prior, based on their citations and the winning paper is selected by a panel of judges. The paper Licensing Contracts: Control Rights, Options, and Timing has also been published in Management Science.

Our heartiest congratulations go to Dean De Reyck and Professor Crama!
