Study: Two-thirds of local seniors do not opt for regular family doctor

A study by the SMU Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) revealed that only 35 per cent of seniors in Singapore have a regular family doctor. Under the Healthier SG initiative launched by Singapore’s Ministry of Health, each patient will be paired with a doctor, as having a regular family doctor ensures continuity of care, which is key to early detection and resolution of health problems. Commenting on the timely launch of the initiative, SMU Dean of Students and Director of ROSA Professor Paulin Straughan noted that this new approach to health care can be embraced by most seniors. She also stressed that we should raise awareness about regular check-ups amongst seniors who might still have concerns.
