In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan discussed the significance of the establishment of the Public Defender's Office and explained why the move is timely and necessary. He opined that the public defender scheme strengthens access to justice and trust and confidence in the administration of criminal justice, and will enhance commitment to the rule of law in Singapore.
