Young lady joins the environmental protection industry, recycling plastic waste into eco-friendly building materials

SMU alumni Oh Chu Xian and Adriel Ng co-founded Magorium in 2019 to turn plastic waste into road construction material. The firm breaks down shopping bags, bottles and other plastic trash into a material that can partially replace the tar-like, oil-based bitumen in the mixture used to build regular roads. Chu Xian was among 32 individuals in Singapore who were included in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia list this year. She shares why she embarked on this journey, the challenges faced and her advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. Chu Xian also revealed that she has benefitted from being part of SMU’s incubator programme – Business Innovation Generator (BIG) – as it had provided her with a lot of assistance.
