Ong Ye Kung: Taking the time for face-to-face interaction is an important part of uni life

Former Education Minister Ong Ye Kung, and now currently Transport Minister, fulfilled his earlier commitment to attend SMU's virtual Freshmen Orientation, where he spoke with a group of freshmen. During the session, he shared that where possible, attempts should be made to resume partial human traffic on university campuses as it is important for students to have actual face-to-face interaction. However, he cautioned that everyone must still do their part to minimise any Covid-19 infection. SMU will be welcoming over 2,300 freshmen in the new Academic Year. The virtual SMU Freshmen Orientation was held over two runs, with each run comprising a 4-day programme. Jimmy Ye, Director, Office of Student Life at SMU also shared how the University, together with student leaders, collaborated to plan for the virtual Freshmen Orientation.
