In a commentary, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Benjamin Joshua Ong opined that instead of seeking to delay the general election by issuing a proclamation of emergency, we should focus on finding ways to hold it in a manner that gives effect to democratic principles and provides a level playing field for candidates, while maintaining infection-control measures.
