In 2014, SMU and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) launched the SMU Warriors Scholarship, which offers retiring and retired servicemen the opportunity to pursue postgraduate degrees at SMU. Currently, 56 retired SAF regulars have benefited from the initiative. In January this year, SMU and MINDEF signed a Memorandum of Understanding to renew the scholarship programme, and will be co-sponsoring up to 30 postgraduate scholarships at an estimated total cost of $1.5 million over the next four years.
