In a commentary, SMU Professor of Economics Hoon Hian Teck discussed the challenges Singapore will face in its quest for continued growth. He explained how issues such as the US-China trade war, a shrinking citizen workforce, the law of diminishing returns to capital, and the time needed to bring about a culture shift towards indigenous innovation portend low growth for Singapore, but remained optimistic that Singapore will reinvent itself again and overcome its constraints.
