2 Malay/Muslim students from SMU achieve high distinction

When Ahmad Noorfahmy Bin Mohamad Salleh was in secondary school, he would grumble when asked to read the “To Kill a Mockingbird” but that book actually sparked off his interest to study law. During his GCE ‘A’ level, he got two As and one B for three H2 subjects. However, he persisted and convinced SMU that he was really interested in law during his admission interview. Now, he is one step nearer to becoming a lawyer after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He will be starting his training with Rajah and Tann in January 2020.

For Nur Syakirah Binte Mohd Said, her love for technology has brought her success. Long before she received her GCE 'O' level results, she was already offered a place to study Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics at Temasek Polytechnic. She chose to study at SMU because the university curriculum focuses more on projects and gave her the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. Even though she is graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science (Information Systems) for doing well in nearly every module, she found it tough to adapt to university life initially. Throughout her experience as a student, she sees herself as among a number of Malay students who could not afford to further their studies because of financial reasons. After getting the Mendaki award, she realised that the local community has been supportive of Malay students’ education.
