Education psychologists: Equipping special needs students with “soft skills” helps to reduce learning pressure

At the Advancing Inclusion in Higher Education Forum organised by SMU’s Diversity, Inclusion and Integration team from the Office of Dean of Students, Dr Mariam Sharifah Aljunied, Lead Educational Psychologist, Ministry of Education discussed the key barriers to successful transition at post-secondary levels for students with special educational needs, as well as evidence-based interventions that can help them achieve success at institutions of higher learning. Ms. Lye Pek Leng, Senior Lecturer, Nanyang Polytechnic shared how her team adapted their course for students with diverse learning needs, using the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
