SMU students invent sensors that reveal bicycle parking zones and remaining lots

A group of SMU School of Information Systems’ (SIS) students spent two months to develop the "Beacon Pancakes" – a sensor which uses the Bluetooth technology to detect if bicycles under the bike-sharing systems have been parked in their proper spaces. This technology also allows bike-sharing operators to fine violators. "Beacon Pancakes" is currently being showcased at SIS students’ exhibition, together with seven other innovative student projects – demonstrating the unlimited potential of the Internet of Things. The "Memory Watch" – another SIS student innovation being showcased – is designed to help patients with mild dementia and will be helpful towards our aging population.
