In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Warren B Chik discussed the proposed amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act that will be introduced by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). Associate Prof Chik added that there are evolving modes of collection and legitimate uses of personal data that should be considered in order to ensure that Singapore’s data protection laws are practical and up-to-date. He noted that the proposed changes take into consideration the interests of individuals and organisations, and this includes consumers and businesses. The PDPC remains open to feedback on the proposal until 21 September and any organisation with concerns or suggestions can still submit their responses by that date.
