New technology developed by SMU helps businesses gain insights from visitors data

LiveLabs Urban Lifestyle Innovation Platform at SMU has developed a new technology to obtain and process data from wifi networks so that malls and venue owners can provide more targeted services to the public, and retailers can send more personalised advertisements to visitors. Another use of LiveLab’s technology is that it is able to convert human flow information into a heatmap so that event organisers can make appropriate crowd control arrangements based on the human traffic volume, and understand which aspects of the event has created more interest among the visitors. The technologies are being used at SMU campus, Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, and Sentosa; and have also been trialed at Singapore Expo during selected trade shows.
