At the 4^th SMU China Forum yesterday, Professor Wu Xiaobo, Dean, School of Management (and Director, National Institute of Innovation Management), Zhejiang University (ZJU), opined that that the Chinese government may be overly focused on state-owned enterprises. He also said that the reform of these enterprises is not about the depth of the turbulence but how complicated the navigation is, in line with the forum’s theme on “Navigating the Chinese Economy through Deep Waters”. He urged the government, which plays a critical role in developing China’s economy, to adopt a more laissez-faire approach to create a fair competition environment, in order to promote more robust economic development.
