SMU launches a unique course on Economics, Politics and Law

SMU freshman Nur Dini Haziqah Mohd Sukri was featured in a Berita Harian article where she recounted the challenges she faced when she was in junior college. With advice from her teacher, she made the switch from the Science stream to Arts stream and eventually excelled in her ‘A’ level examinations. Ms Dini is among 46 students who will be taking the Politics, Law and Economics (PLE) major offered at SMU’s School of Social Sciences. She said that she was very attracted to the PLE major which allows students to have a broader area of study in three very key areas of focus before specialising in more specific themes in the third year. The article also highlighted that SMU will launch new facilities at the start of the new academic year, to provide students with a more conducive learning environment. These include bigger studying space and seminar rooms which can accommodate an increasing number of students. SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer said: "I'm very pleased that we have managed to develop and execute a very creative and innovative plan to optimise our space within the many urban constraints that we face."
