SMU Professor settles down in Singapore and makes significant contributions to cybersecurity research

SMU Professor of Information Systems Robert Deng has conducted research into cybersecurity and data security over many years, and has obtained 28 patents. In recognition for his long history of professional contributions to the field of cybersecurity, Prof Deng was elevated to IEEE Fellow earlier this year. He arrived in Singapore in 1987, and became a citizen two years later. He has worked in various government agencies before joining SMU School of Information Systems in 2004. A leading authority in security analysis, Prof Deng and his colleagues were the first to publish fault-based attack against public key cryptosystems and the countermeasures in 1996. In 2013, he was part of the first team to publish a generic technique that enables third-party applications to launch attacks on iOS devices. Prof Deng is presently Director of the Secure Mobile Centre, which will be commencing a joint research project with UK University of Surrey next month on Computational Modelling and Automatic Non-intrusive Detection Of Human Behaviour-based Insecurity.
