Preserving traditional Malay music

The sounds of kompang, the traditional musical instrument, can be heard at SMU every Tuesday, played by Kompang group Rentak. Vice President of SMU's Malay language and cultural club Mr Ahmad Saifullah Mustaffa noted that the club wants to develop the art this year. "We used to have a dance group but was discontinued because of lack of participation. Later on, we set-up Rentak with the vision of creating awareness on traditional Malay music among SMU students,” he added.
