Leaving family business in good hands

SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business Vice President (Office of Business Development) and Professor of Finance (Practice) Annie Koh commented on leadership succession in family businesses. She cited an example of a row that erupted in South Korea in July when the younger son of 92-year-old Lotte Group founder Shin Kyuk Ho ousted his father from position of chairman. The younger son, who had expected to take the reins of the food and retail conglomerate, acted after his father suddenly shifted his support to his elder son.
