Two S’pore accounting academics receive award for innovative teaching

SMU School of Accountancy Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum) and Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) Seow Poh Sun and SMU Senior Lecturer of Accounting Wong Suay Peng were honoured with the 2015 Innovation in Accounting Education Award from the American Accounting Association in August. The award, sponsored by the Ernst & Young Foundation, was given to Associate Prof Seow and Ms Wong in recognition of their achievement in innovative teaching in the use of a mobile game app. Their work, Accounting Challenge: Mobile-Gaming App For Learning Accounting, is the first mobile-gaming app developed for teaching financial accounting, and aims to enhance learning of accounting by engaging students to play and learn accounting on the go, anywhere at any time. Associate Prof Seow expressed his heartfelt thanks to his colleagues in SMU for their support, adding that he is deeply grateful to receive this prestigious awards from his peers halfway across the world. He also shared that the app is freely available in iPhone/iPad and Android version. In June, the total number of download for the app was 15,110, spanning 90 countries.
