SMU sets up centre to promote intellectual property research in Asia

SMU has set up the Applied Research Centre for Intellectual Assets and the Law in Asia (ARCIALA), which aims to raise awareness of and carry out research on intellectual property (IP) in the Asian region. This is the region’s first research centre to focus on Asia-centric and cross-disciplinary research. Senior Minister of State for Law Indranee Rajah, who was present at ARCIALA’s launch, said that despite the economic progress and growing influence of Asia, there is not enough Asian-focused intellectual property research and literature. As such, ARCIALA is well-positioned to undertake research on IP in the Asian context. ARICIALA Director Liu Kung-Chung, who specialises in the Intellectual Property Law and Competition Law, said that the new centre will focus on research on the development of IP in Asia.
