The Workshop on Analytics for Business, Consumer and Social Insights was held at SMU on March 14 and 15. This year’s workshop was the third edition, and showcased the latest research on how data analytics can inform policy making, drawing on presenters from both academia and industry. SMU Dean of the School of Information Systems and Vice Provost (Research) Professor Steven Miller, who was present at the workshop, said that SMU was uniquely positioned to capitalise on the interdisciplinary research required in data analytics. Professor Miller said: “What is distinctive about SMU is that we are probably the only university in the world able to focus on the three fields of management, social science and computing with 100 per cent of our attention. Our mission is to figure out ways to build stronger connections and a deeper integration across these three areas.”
