SMU’s latest learning experience, called SMU-X, enables students to help clients solve real-world problems with guidance from faculty members. At a press conference on April 23, faculty members and students shared their thoughts on one of two recently concluded pilots, which gave a glimpse of the new teaching and learning style that SMU wants to champion. The new SMU Labs at Stamford Road facility was refurbished to encourage collaboration and is open round the clock with rooms for small groups to meet. SMU Associate Director (Strategic Planning) at the Office of President Tan Gan Hup, who set up SMU-X, said that the concept focuses on teamwork. From this August, SMU will offer six modules taught in this new way, ranging from Public Policy Management, to Global Migration and Human Security.
