SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that Mr Lee Kuan Yew left as his legacy a strong governance model for Singapore based on foresight, vision, boldness and confidence. Policies, unpopular as these were, were implemented based on the belief that they were needed for the country. Without this mode of leadership, it is unlike Singapore would have survived. He also said that the question now is whether with a younger better-informed electorate Singapore can move smoothly away from a one-party dominant state.
