At the two-day Higher Education Planning in Asia Forum held by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at the SMU, starting from March 23, SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer spoke about the changing way of educating students, during which he highlighted SMU’s adoption of a “blended learning” approach where classroom instruction is combined with online curricula. Prof De Meyer also said that as students now have all the information at their fingertips, he has had the experience of students correcting him when he is teaching in class. This shows that the role of educators has changed from being a source of knowledge and wisdom to a facilitator of students’ thoughts.
