New media’s sharing capabilities attract the like-minded

The SMU Lien Centre for Social Innovation is currently undertaking a project called the SMU Change Lab which aims to identify unmet social needs and to improve local social services. The Centre’s Director Jonathan Chang said that their first target audience is the elderly who stay alone. He pointed out that apart from publishing articles and reports, they are now embracing the new media and spreading awareness via social media like Facebook and podcasts, which he said has advantages in sharing capabilities and in allowing people to express their views.
