7 winning proposals on cyber security awarded $42 million in research funding

SMU will set up a Secure Mobile Centre in three months’ time, headed by SMU’s School of Information Systems Associate Dean and Professor of Information Systems Robert Deng. Prof Deng said that one of the topics of research will be methods of isolation in order to reduce the risk of information leakage when malicious software enters smartphones. In addition, the centre will conduct research on measures to protect account safety, following the rise of smart watches and smart glasses.

“These projects seek to strengthen the resilience of Singapore's cyber infrastructure and help us stay ahead of cyber threats," said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, as he announced the plans yesterday at the 12th National Security Seminar. The seven projects will involve research in topics such as digital forensics, and mobile and cloud data security, and were picked from more than 20 proposals
