Incoming SMU dean aims to turn S'pore into 'entrepreneurial destination'

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, incoming SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) Dean Professor Gerard George said that he aims to turn Singapore into an “entrepreneurial destination” and build an ecosystem of entrepreneurs – something the region lacks. With his sights set on making LKCSB one of the world’s top 20 business schools – Prof George said: “What I bring to the table, my thinking, would be to help create an innovative and entrepreneurial mind set – thinking about opportunities, how do you actually take that forward.” Apart from focusing his efforts on practical research that helps solve problems among businesses, for instance, Prof George also hopes to better integrate the school with the community. SMU Provost and Deputy President (Academic Affairs), Professor Rajendra K Srivastava noted that while Singapore invests heavily in science and technology, it does not invest enough to take the results of research in this sector into the market. This is one area where he hopes the business school and Prof George will be able to take the lead.
