SMU Associate Professor of Law and Nominated Member of Parliament Eugene Tan shared his thoughts on the merits of public debate in spite of its contentious nature following the NLB saga. He said that when a society becomes a lot more diverse and complex, we should recognise that there are increasingly differences in values. There is value in contestation because one cannot run away from the fact that in any society, there will be competition and very often conflicting interests.
