Social sustainability should be S'pore's political priority

In a forum letter, SMU Professor of Law Mark Findlay cited Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean's recent speech on the need for Singapore to position itself where it could add the most value and evolve to changing circumstances. He opined that maintaining such sustainability should not be restricted merely to economic pursuits, and should extend towards greater leadership in the promotion of social sustainability. He added that it was time to emphasise trust, connectivity and liveability in social terms as well, beyond the economic context. Prof Findlay said that this would set Singapore as a truly competitive nation, as the region and the world wrestle with crucial concerns for an uncertain economic future.
