Law of Ordinances

SMU Assistant Professor of Law Shubhankar Dam has written a book titled, “Presidential Legislation in India – The Law and Practice of Ordinances”. The book, published by Cambridge University Press, studies ordinances in India centred around three themes. It describes how an artefact of British constitutional history became a part of India’s legislative system. Then it provides an empirical account of the manner in which presidents have resorted to ordinances. Finally, it analyses ordinance-related subjects including some that have yet to be adjudicated.
