Crafting a business

After launching the Bamboobee Bicycle range made from the sustainable material last year, SMU business graduate Sunny Chuah teamed up with Dutchman Daniel Heerkens to move into the children's market with the GreenChamp Bike, a balance bike for tykes aged 18 months to five years. It will be launched on crowdfunding portal Kickstarter to raise S$34,228 and those who pledge $190 will secure themselves a bicycle. The Bamboobee Bicycle was greatly supported last year when 120 people pledged S$80,027 to the project. Chuah said that the excitement online over these bicycles is part of the growing endorsement of handmade products. He assured that the bicycles “are value for money”, and that he had wanted the parts “to be of a certain standard” despite availability of cheaper sources.
