Little India Riot: The Inquiry

Commenting on the alcohol ban put in place after the December 8 riot in Little India, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that he was of the opinion that alcohol restrictions were necessary, but that they should not be specific to areas in which foreign workers congregate. He believes that it is time for a nation-wide approach towards alcohol consumption and sales. In response to the recommendations made by the Committee of Inquiry, he said, “If anything untoward were to happen, we have to make sure that we have sufficient resources on the ground to be able to react not just efficiently, but also effectively.”
