SEC survey: Singaporeans hope for implementation of stricter environmental protection measures and raising of community participation levels

SMU environmental club SMU Verts vice chairman Xu Wei Jie was one of the participants in the discussion organised by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) on the vision for the Singapore environment. He said that about half of the secondary and university students he comes into contact with are not interested in environmental issues. He thus hopes to encourage more young students to pay more attention to such issues. He added that these youths feel that it is not worth the effort and time to understand such issues as they cannot see the relevance of such issues to themselves. However, the best time to get involved in such initiatives is actually while they are still in school as students have more time and energy. Schools also offer many platforms to participate in such activities.
