By the SMU Corporate Communications team

A brand new journal called Asian Management Insights (AMI) was launched at SMU on 16 May 2014, featuring 13 informative articles in 88 attractively designed pages it will advance SMU’s progress to becoming widely acknowledged as an Asian knowledge hub for research centred around the world of business and management. It was the work of a team in SMU’s Centre for Management Practice (CMP), with Dean of Postgraduate Professional Programmes, Professor Philip Zerrillo as the Editor-in-Chief, and Head of Communications & Dissemination at CMP, Havovi Joshi as Editor.

In the opening message “From the Editor”, Professor Zerrillo wrote “Asian Management Insights aims to develop a body of knowledge and a narrative of innovation and creativity for trends in Asian management. It brings together some of the best and brightest of Asia’s thought leaders and their solutions to address current Asian challenges.” The first issue includes articles on topics as diverse as unleashing creativity in a cross-cultural environment, data analytics for smarter cities and more sustainable urban living, and Professor Zerrillo’s interview with Mr Ratan Tata, Indian businessman and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. Around 6,000 copies have been printed and Havovi Joshi believes it will be read by senior business executives and practitioner scholars all around the world.

Speaking at the launch, Professor Zerrillo thanked his entire team and pointed out that whilst putting together the first issue of the journal, they had also managed to write over 90 case studies with teaching notes on businesses around the region, all during just two years and eight months since CMP was established.

SMU Provost and Deputy President (Academic Affairs) Professor Rajendra Srivastava, who has supported the development of the journal since it was first mooted, said it promoted SMU’s strategy of becoming a global brand. He also acknowledged and gave recognition to Professor Zerrillo for all of CMP’s achievements since its launch.

SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer extended his heartiest congratulations to the team on the high quality of the journal and said he is already looking forward to seeing the next issue, which is due to be published in November 2014.
