Why aren’t graduates earning more in a tight labour market?

In a commentary on why graduates are not earning more in a tight labour market, Richard Hartung noted that 92.3 per cent of SMU graduates were employed, and their average salary of S$3,455 was 1.8 per cent above the year before, setting a new record high. However, Hartung suggested that the shift in emphasis towards creativity, team-building and interdisciplinary learning that is under way at Singapore universities needs to accelerate and that schools could also do more career counselling to ensure that students develop realistic expectations.
