More than 1,000 people from various races and religions took part in the Slipper Race charity event held at the SMU campus and organised by non-profit organisation, Project Happy Feet. The event supports less fortunate children in Singapore and Cambodia through the Sped Financial Assistance Scheme managed by Community Chest and This Life Cambodia. The spirit of charity shown by the participants has been described by Minister of State (Defence and National Development) Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman as a display of Total Defence. At the close of the event, Project Happy Feet managed to raise $35,000, and the organisers hope to raise a total of $100,000 by 14 April.
