2014 Budget: Responses from academics

SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said this year’s Budget is for the whole of society. Although it is the pioneer generation that benefits directly, the younger generation benefits indirectly as their share of their parents’ healthcare costs is reduced. He also feels that the Government has done the right thing by raising the CPF contribution rates. He hopes that employers will look at the bigger picture and see how it affects society, and not just the rise in their business costs.
