SMU Associate Professor of Accounting (Practice) Themin Suwardy felt that the Government has directed the independent Auditor-General's Office to audit the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council’s (AHPETC) financial statements to eliminate any thoughts that there were any wrongdoings. He added that there is little to be done unless there is evidence of illegal activities. There can only be suggestions on how AHPETC can do things better. Ultimately, the MPs in charge of the town council must be answerable to their voters.
