Debate rages over whether boundaries of polling districts will change

SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan pointed out that the polling district that a voter belongs to will not change even though the boundaries of the polling district have been changed. He said these changes are basically administrative in nature, and will not affect voters or residents. The changes are meant to ensure polling districts are neither too small nor too big, so that elections can be held smoothly and effectively. He added that under the Parliamentary Elections Act, the Elections Department can change the polling district if the situation calls for it. In such a case, the public must be informed through the Government Gazette.
