Parliament to discuss checkpoint breach

SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that during the debate in Monday’s Parliament on the Public Order (Additional Temporary Measures) Bill, he would express his concern over whether it was “overkill”. “If we want to give the police such strong powers, then I think there must be a firmer basis on which they act. So while I’m in full agreement with the need for public order in Little India, the disagreement is over how we enable the police to do their job.”
