For SMU Professor of Strategic Management (Education) Stefano Harney, the rise of business studies represents a "hedge" by students against the risks associated with rising debt and insecure job prospects. Students without family wealth perceive subjects associated with the public or not-for-profit sector as higher risk, he argues.
