A long way to go before bus services can be improved

According to survey findings released by the Institute of Service Excellence at SMU last October, the public’s satisfaction score for overall bus services in the second quarter had fallen by one point to 60.6 from the same period a year earlier. The fact that passenger satisfaction scores were sliding while bus services were deemed to have met the standards set is a situation that deserves attention. In response, the government has been introducing several measures to improve public bus services, the latest being a trial to reward or fine bus service providers, depending on whether commuters wait for a shorter or longer period of time for selected bus services.
