Looking Ahead 2014

Also speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural SMU China Forum, Professor Justin Lin, Honorary Dean and Professor of the National School of Development at Peking University, said that China’s economy could grow by between 7.5 and 8 per cent in 2014. Even if the external environment becomes unfavourable, China could still rely on the growth of its domestic economy to attain its development goals. He said that the Chinese government is financially sound, and local governments would be able reap returns from their investments. Ms Diana Tsui, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility & Diversity, KPMG China & CEO of KPMG Foundation, felt that China’s economy and job market would be less volatile in 2014, but does not expect any significant growth.
