Third year SMU business student Cai Dong Wei and his brother Cai Dong Liang overcame the odds to make it to university. Their parents were divorced when they were just toddlers. Younger brother Dong Wei persevered despite being advised to go to ITE. He took his O levels as a private candidate and studied at Millenia Institute for his A levels. He became the top A level student there, but chose to give up a government scholarship, so that he could become a lawyer. He had watched a documentary on the poor treatment of foreign workers and wanted to do social law. He will be starting his law degree course at SMU next year. Elder brother Dong Liang played the father figure to Dong Wei in the absence of their own father, after the death of their maternal grandfather. He is currently a third year business student at SMU.
