Singapore immigration

SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan gave his assessment of the foreigner worker situation in Singapore. Commenting on how the Government is trying to recalibrate the workforce, he said that it is about first getting the numbers right, and getting employers to be more willing to develop local talent. Next, it involves getting Singaporeans to recognise that immigration is an integral part of Singapore’s economic policy, and that Singapore has too small an economy to generate jobs without foreign investors and trade. He also commented on the issue of national identity.
