SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented on the summoning of Singapore's High Commissioner by Malaysia on Tuesday to respond to allegations of spying which risk damaging improved political and business ties between the two countries. He said: "I don’t think we should be surprised that this sort of diplomatic statecraft is being practised, even by the closest of neighbours". Associate Prof Tan also added that the reports could also spur friction between Singapore and Indonesia.
