Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said that the world hopes that China can successfully push through its reforms and transform its economy, because it has become a key engine of economic growth for the world. At the same time, if China can move up the value chain, the other economies would also benefit. Mr Tharman delivered the Opening Address at the inaugural SMU China Forum yesterday, where he spoke about the four development potentials and two risks of the Chinese economy, as well as how the Chinese economy could create a win-win situation for other Asian economic entities. The theme of the SMU China Forum was Be China Ready. At the Forum, SMU President Arnoud De Meyer shared that the university’s China strategy, which included raising SMU’s profile and reputation in China, attracting quality Chinese students, and broadening its engagement with Chinese universities.
