SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented on the case of an old man being beaten up by his son despite him settling the his gambling debts, Associate Prof Tan said that rather than draw up a new law to tackle such cases, it might be better to use other measures like counselling as the law does not solve the root problem. The crux lies in mending family relationships that have been affected by such physical abuse. Besides, there is already legislation like personal protection orders to handle such cases.
